Finno-Ugric capital of culture 2015: Obinitsa

On 11 August 2014, an international jury selected Obinitsa in the Seto region as the Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture. It was the second time the Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture was chosen. In 2014, the honour went to the village of Bygy in Udmurtia. The Finno-Ugric capital of culture project is planned to stimulate development and foster a positive image for national areas.

In connection with the title of capital of culture, the Seto region will host over 35 cultural events in 2015, the common theme of which is passing on traditional culture from older to younger generations, masters to master and anyone interested. The capital of culture has its own mayor – Evar Riitsaar. The activities in the 2015 Capital of Culture programme are coordinated by SA Setu Kultuuri Fond.
